Alphabet tops the chart of the most active investors in blockchain and crypto
In a year, Google’s parent company invested $1.5 billion in blockchain companies in four rounds. The others in the top 5 include Black Rock, Morgan Stanley, Samsung, and Goldman Sachs.
From September 2021 to June 2022, 40 firms invested about $6 billion in various blockchain startups. Samsung turned out to be the most active, having supported 13 companies.
Polygon co-founder raises $50 million for a fund for Web3
Sandeep Nailwal is creating Symbolic Capital, a venture capital fund to support Web3 founders. He believes it will help speed up app development to help startups like OneArt accelerate crypto and Web3 mass adoption.
About 15 investments have already been made. Blinkmoon gaming studio, Community Gaming platform, and Planet Mojo metaverse are among the lucky ones.
Telegram in Web3
Pavel Durov, Telegram founder and CEO, eyes adding some Web3 options to his social network. In his recent post, he speculated about putting usernames, channel and group links at auctions. The TON-based marketplace might also feature stickers, channels, and emojis.
The marketplace will be created using bullet-proof smart contracts. And holders will be able to transfer usernames via non-fungible token-like smart contracts.
Coinbase and OpenSea ranked in top 5 breakthrough companies
As per startup accelerator Y Combinator, crypto exchange is #4, and NFT marketplace is #5. They lag behind only Stripe (a payments infrastructure company), which became first, and InstaCart and DoorDash, delivery companies, ranked #2 and #3, respectively.
Polygon and GameSwift to create a decentralized gaming platform
The companies plan to enable developers to launch next-generation games based on Polygon and zero-knowledge proof. Product details coming later.
On Twitter, the project has already been dubbed Steam for Web3 games.
Eminem and Snoop Dogg to perform together in the Otherside metaverse
On August 28, they’ll hit the MTV Video Music Awards with “From the D 2 the LBC”, nominated in the “Best Hip-Hop Video” category. The virtual performance will also mark the return of the artists to the MTV ceremony. Eminem last performed at the VMAs in 2010, and Snoop Dogg in 2005.
Both are longtime members of the crypto community. They collect NFTs and launch their own collections, so it was only a matter of time before they hit the metaverse.
As for Otherside, it’s still in development and hasn’t confirmed a release date yet. The project is currently open only to the owners and a limited number of developers.
Samsung to create a crypto exchange in South Korea in 2023
Samsung explored the possibilities of launching its own crypto platform, gathering a separate team. As per local media, the tech giant will focus on security tokens.
Six more South Korean companies, including Mirae Asset Securities, an investment banking and stock brokerage company, also plan to tap into the crypto space.
