Jack Dorsey’s first tweet is up for sale for $48 million
A digital copy of the very first tweet made by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is listed on OpenSea for $48 million. That’s 16 times the price the owner bought it for initially!
Last year, Sina Estavi, CEO of Malaysian blockchain company Bridge Oracle, announced that he is going to sell a tweet with the words “just setting up my twttr” as NFT for 14,969 Ether.
It’s worth recalling that Musk recently bought a 9.2% stake in Twitter, becoming part of the board the next day, while Dorsey himself stepped down as CEO back in November.
Volkswagen enters the metaverse
A South African sub-branch of Volkswagen is launching a metaverse integration campaign to promote its latest Polo model with its new smart feature — IQ.DRIVE.
Blending the world of online gaming and reality, “Game On” brings interactivity to everyday life through a treasure hunt in the form of hidden NFTs. The first to find them will be rewarded with a range of different real and virtual prizes, up to and including a PS5 and driving lessons from Volkswagen.
Britain plans to mint NFT
U.K. Finance Minister Rishi Sunak has requested the Royal Mint to create a state-owned NFT for “the summer” release.
The announcement provided no clarification on what the image or object would be: whether it would be limited to a single token, and whether it is planned to generate revenue from it.
The decision to launch the NFT may cause mixed reactions, given the highest inflation in 3 decades and the projected poverty of more than a million British people.
Sunak says his ambition is “to make Britain a global hub for crypto-asset technology”.
NFT-based wedding within the metaverse is now a reality
Unilever, with its oral care brand Closeup, has released the world’s first NFT marriage certificate, allowing couples to officially formalize their wedding ceremony in the metaverse.
While it may seem like just a clever marketing ploy on the part of the corporation, the company has been pursuing the “closeness without discrimination” agenda for the past 50 years.
Many couples are still being denied the right to marry by institutions, especially among minorities. Given the virtuality of the metaverse, such a platform would serve as another step toward liberalization.
Meta to create a virtual currency for its metaverse
The Financial Times reports that the decline in popularity of Facebook and Instagram has directed Meta to the idea of its currency — Zuck Bucks — for the metaverse as a new source of income.
A pilot NFT project is getting ready to launch in May. Maybe it will be possible to mint on Facebook, access groups with NFT in the wallet, and even “social tokens” for contributing to the development of FB.
The company itself refrained from commenting on the news.
Starbucks enters the NFT world
Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, said Starbucks plans to enter the NFT world by the end of this year. According to Schultz, Starbucks has enormous potential in this area.
The company said in a statement that it is working on “digital innovation through NFTs and plans for the continued evolution of partner benefits, with more detail expected in the weeks ahead.”
Recall that Schultz took over as CEO of Starbucks after Kevin Johnson ended his five-year stay at the head of the company.
