Reddit tests feature to set any NFT as a profile image
Reddit is in the early stages of testing a feature that allows users to use any NFT they own as their profile picture, similar to Twitter which recently launched such a feature. Clicking on an image will give you information about the NFT.
Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt said such an “update” could benefit Reddit users.
This test feature isn’t Reddit’s first NFT-related project: launching a nft.reddit.com page with digital collectibles called CryptoSnoos marked the beginning of Reddit’s engagement with the NFT world. The reaction from users to the network’s involvement in the NFT theme has been varied.
Shiba inu developers are going to enter the metaverse with “shibverse” project
The developers of shiba inu unveiled a snippet of their metaverse project on Twitter on Monday, posting an image of the “shibverse”. Shiba inu has risen along with other altcoins: last time, it was up by 9% at $0.00002105.
Developer Shytoshi Kusama revealed plans regarding the metaverse back in November, stating that the metaverse could be of value to users, but that a foundation needed to be laid.
The metaverse theme has started to grow in popularity in 2021, with Grayscale reporting that it could easily become “a $1 trillion market opportunity”.
$50m Metaverse accelerator to be launched the Sandbox
The Ethereum NFT game makers plan to invest in 100 metaverse startups. The Sandbox, along with leading metaverse investor Animoca Brand and venture accelerator Brinc, has committed $50 million to fund startups.
The program will include mentoring and funding, accelerating the startups’ entry into the market. Each startup will receive $150,000 — $250,000, and other grants. Also, there will be well-known crypto gurus as mentors, most of whom are members of The Sandbox team.
The Sandbox already has a fund that rewards artists and developers related to the game industry. Sandbox co-founder Sebastien Borget said that many people want to try their hand at metaverse development but don’t have the investment to launch a project.
Warner Music Group enters the metaverse launching “concert park”
WMG announced its intention to enter the metaverse by launching a “concert theme park” in the Sandbox metaverse, which will feature concerts by a wide range of artists, from Ed Sheeran to Dua Lipa. The Sandbox plans to hold a sale of virtual “concert” properties in March.
WMG chief digital officer Oana Ruxandra said that the company is focused on developing Web 3 in the music industry and being “ a driving opportunity, not behind the eight ball”.
In addition to WMG, other music players have been in the field even earlier: the metaverse game Decentraland held a three-day virtual gig, while Snoop Dogg held virtual meetings at The Sandbox.
NFT should be like World of Warcraft items, Vitalik Buterin suggests
Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, has indicated a desire to make NFTs “soulbound” as a class of items in the World of Warcraft game. That intention is to prevent other players from exchanging or selling items in the in-game auction and thus avoid “twinking”.
Also, Buterin praised the POAP project, which stores digital memories of a person’s life (on-chain) and gives out a unique badge. The team involved in the project urges developers to check “on-chain whether the current owner is the same address as the original owner”.
OpenSea Exploit allowed BAYC NFT to be sold for $1,700
The OpenSea listing bug allowed Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT to be purchased at a significantly undervalued price. BAYC owner Tballer was shocked when his Ape was sold for just $1,700.
The minimum price of BAYC NFT is currently 86 ETH (about $200,000). The BAYC NFT collection is the #2 collections on OpenSea of all time, with over 338,000 ETH sold in secondary sales. The strange thing is that two of the “monkeys” are now on an OpenSea account owned by someone named Juan Fdez.
Using orders.rarible.com provides a solution for concerned NFT owners. Rarible was launched to deal with incidents like this one. Hugo Morosini, Ledger’s tech manager, said that OpenSea has released a new feature to deal with incidents like this on the “Listings” tab.
